Even as we enter the season of recreation and vacation, you won’t find many breaks in the Chester Eastside calendar!
Here is a taste of where we’ve been…and where we’re going!
In recent days we came together to recognize the conclusion of the After School Time academic year. On the students’ last day, a celebration of their tremendous accomplishments took place in the parking lot that featured awards, recognitions, grilled summer food, lots of playing and games, and, of course, not one – but two – bouncie houses!
Congratulations to all of our students, and to their families who offer us their trust, and the privilege of walking with their children.

Very soon after celebrating our students, we gathered in the parking lot again with neighbors and friends for a community cookout. More than seventy people came out to enjoy the beautiful day, eat delicious food, and receive prizes – all in anticipation of the re-opening of our hot meals program.

Let the smiles tell the story!
The very next day the door to the hot meal program, which had been closed for more than three years, swung wide with welcome once more. “The Open Table” is just that: open to anyone who is seeking the sustenance of food and the nourishment of community. Serving begins at 11:00am, if everyone has eaten seconds begin at 12:00, and any food left at 12:30 is up for take out. It is open on Mondays and Wednesdays – the meals will be warm and waiting – with no reservations necessary!

And Now, For the Things About to Be…
Camp Phoenix is just on the horizon! As in previous years, it will happen every weekday in July (except the 4th). It will include a touch of academics, much recreation (especially swimming), prepared lunches, art, dancing, technology, and, of course, amazing field trips!
A Short Notice and Reminder…
For any and all board members, staff, and volunteers tomorrow (Wednesday the 7th) is the monthly community meeting. Each first Wednesday we gather to share news and updates about all of our programs. All are welcome at 1:00pm, and lunch is provided!
Produce on the Way!
The expansion of The Community Garden is taking root. Soon the seeds will be planted into a perfect mix of wood chips and soil. After that: pumpkins and squash everywhere!

Finally, we offer a follow up to last month’s annual spring appeal. As we expand our services and refine our programs contributions become even more vital to sustain all we offer. It’s definitely not too late for donations for Camp Phoenix, and we fully anticipate that participation in The Open Table will continue to rapidly expand.
