This Is How!
We all know it takes a village to raise a child. At CEI we also know it takes a village to raise a garden.
Each year the Community Garden produces hundreds of pounds of produce. The preparation and planting starts in the spring. The tending takes place through the summer. Then, with the fall comes the harvest!
It takes many hands (and backs!) to make a garden grow. The Community Garden Team at CEI has people of all ages and abilities, people who know everything about gardens and those who know nothing, and is made up of teachers and students, staff and volunteers.
CEI Team Garden has always come through. But this year we need an expansion!
If you have not heard, the Garden is expanding – by more than two times! Here you can see the wood chips being spread on what will be the new part of the Garden, with the original part in the background.
On top of the chips will be soil, and on top of the soil will be top soil. Soon it will be home to many seeds that will bring pumpkins, squash, corn – even things that crawl up vines!
As you would imagine, more land means more produce, and more produce means more work! We are acutely in need of more laborers for our fields! If you or someone you know likes to garden, we need volunteers right away.
Also, we are seeking two school age people to employ for four hours per week for the rest of June and August. We are also looking for two people to do the same in the fall for two hours per week. In either case we are offerng $12.50 per hour. If you are interested, please call the office at 610-872-4812 to get more information about the type of work needed and the schedule.
And, please, feel free to spread the word for either or both volunteers or staff!
And One More Plea…
As the summer season begins, it getting harder to keep the shelves stocked at The Food Pantry. Although we are able to get much pasta, it is more difficult to get pasta sauce. Any donations would be greatly appreciated, and quick to move!
