There’s a hole in the bucket, dear Liza, dear Liza…

Participants in CEI’s first “Seed to Supper” program learn how to create planters out of large buckets – which requires drilling holes in the bottom and side of each bucket!

Earlier today, in partnership with the Master Gardeners at Penn State Brandywine, our neighbors were invited to learn about planting, receive planting buckets, take home seeds and flats of flowers, and reserve a plot in our community garden for their own use.

Special shout out to the Master Gardeners – who truly are – and to our two hard-working interns from Swarthmore College who led in planning and organizing the event from start to finish! Great job Emily and India!!

Bidding in the Not-So Silent Auction continues through midnight on Wednesday, May 8! It’s also not too late to upload items and experiences for bidding, with all of the profits being used to support the programs and services at Chester Eastside. The QR code below will take you directly to the website to place bids. Also, the link to upload an item is on the opening page. Thank you in advance for your generosity and committment to CEI.
Our need for volunteers has never been greater! We have learned that the new choice model in our Food Pantry Program needs additional volunteers – especially to help our guests take their food out of the building. And adding a third day to The Open Table, our hot meals program, has also increased the number of volunteers needed per week.
If you can offer your time and energy, you can use the button below to access our electronic sign up page. It contains all of the programs that depend upon volunteers.
If you have not volunteered before and have an interest, please don’t hesitate to call the office (610-872-4812) to arrange a time to visit and/or receive an orientation.Click Here to Volunteer
In recognition of the National Day of Prayer, CEI was invited to host an interfaith gathering in which voices from different faith traditions will be raised in prayer for healing, hope, and peace. All are welcome this Thursday, and special thanks to our partners at St. Paul’s for offering their sanctuary for the service.

Announcing the 2024 Phoenix Summer Camp!
For over a decade the CEI summer camp has provided a month-long set of experiences and activities that are not only fun, but continue to focus on academics, enrichment, and the arts.
This year it will run from July 1-August 2, from 9am-4pm each weekday. We are currently seeking Counselors to staff the camp, and watch for the announcement about the registration dates.
Finally, watch your mailboxes and inboxes as the annual campaign to support our camp and our students will be arriving soon!
And yet one more upcoming event…the annual ball and fundraiser for our partners in the Chester Historical Preservation Committee.
